Why do we gather for service? Why do we have preaching? Why do we lift our hands? Why do we have altar calls?
The word “church” in the Greek is “ekklesia”, literally meaning, “those called out to gather together with God.” We believe that only in our gathering for worship is the church made real.
“For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them.” (Matthew 18:20)
“With trumpets and the sound of a horn; shout joyfully before the LORD, the King.” (Psalms 98:6)
“Shout joyfully to the LORD, all the earth; break forth in song, rejoice, and sing praises.” (Psalms 98:4)

We find the disciples coming daily to join in prayer in the temple. (Acts 3:1, 6:4) At Pentecost, for ten days the church gathered and prayed until the Holy Ghost came; and when it fell, it was manifested by audible praise and prayer. (Acts 2:1-4)

“And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:4)
“For if I pray in tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the result then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.” (1 Corinthians 14:1-15)

“But has in due time manifested His word through preaching, which was committed to me according to the commandment of God our Savior,” (Titus 1:3)
“Preach the Word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all long suffering and teaching.” (2 Timothy 4:2)
It was common throughout the Bible to require people to make a public decision. Moses did this when he drew a line and called upon the people to decide which side they were on. Joshua did this when he declared, “Choose you this day whom you will serve.” (Joshua 24:15) Elijah forced a whole nation to make a choice when the fire fell and the prophets of the false god, Baal were destroyed. Peter also demanded a decision on the day of Pentecost and three thousand people came forward, gave their lives to Christ, were saved, then baptized!
“Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 10:32-33)
“He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.” (Proverbs 28:13)
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1 John 1:9)
“Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16)
The term “Christian” literally means “Christ-like”, specifically in reference to Jesus Christ. The term was first used as a mockery against early new testament believers, insinuating that they were nothing more than mindless followers of Jesus Christ. As any true follower of Christ would be, the “Christians” accepted the reproachful term as flattery for their faith, and the title eventually became quite common, though mentioned only twice in the Bible itself (Acts 26:28 and 1 Peter 4:16). Having this understanding of the origin of the term, the question must again be asked, “What, then, is a Christian?” A Christian is simply a person who behaves, believes, and is becoming like Jesus Christ.
First, is behavior important? Yes! As Jesus said in John 13:15 “For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.” This is imperative to being a Christian, according to Christ himself. Second, a Christian must believe that Christ was the Son of God, for Jesus said in John 14:11, “Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves.”
Finally, a Christian is someone who is continually living for God, to become more like Christ. In Hebrews 3:14 it says, “For we have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end,” therefore, a Christian must remain such “to the end”. The original Greek word for “end” is “telos”. Telos specifically means the end of a state (i.e. death) as opposed to the end of a time. This is important because this means that a Christian is someone who actually lives their life for God “to the end of it’s living state,” not until “the end of a time” when they decide to live otherwise.
Jesus explained in no uncertain terms that whether or not someone was a genuine Christian was crucial, especially upon their passing away. He made it clear that after death a soul would either be joyfully welcomed into Heaven or judged to be sent to hell. Jesus said in John 3:18 “He who believes in Him (speaking of himself) is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” This is the judgment of those who did not believe in Jesus. In Matthew 25:32-46, Jesus told the parable of the sheep and goats, where people who considered themselves to be “Christian” are sent to “everlasting fire” (Hell) because they did not behave like, or do the works of a Christian. Therefore, it is not enough to believe in Christ, alone, but it must be supported by works. And in Matthew 7:21-23 Jesus said, “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice iniquity!” So, too, it is not enough to believe and behave like a Christian if you do not become like Christ to the end.

[Revelation 3:20] “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hears my voice, and opens the door, I will come into him, and will dine with him, and he with me.” Jesus is waiting to come into your heart right now. You didn’t seek Him, but He sought you and you feel Him calling you right now.
[1 John 1:9] “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
[Romans 10:8-10, 13] “But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, in your mouth and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith which we preach): that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
How do people become “saved” and “born again” Christians? How can you receive eternal life so that you will be sure to go to be with God when you die? The following is a synopsis of what the Bible requires.
You can be powerfully “saved” and “born again” and receive eternal life right NOW, as millions of people worldwide have. When you receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, you will overwhelmingly look at your salvation as the most exciting event in your life.
Genuinely say a simple prayer like the following (the exact words are not essential). If you are sincere, God will immediately save you and give you eternal life.
“Dear Jesus, I ask you to come into my heart. I know that I am a sinner, but I believe that you died on the cross and rose from the dead to set me free. I believe that your shed blood has released me from the power of sin. I pledge by God’s grace, to follow and obey Christ as the Lord of my life. Please forgive me for my sins and save me. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen.”

Important steps to becoming a successful Christian…
Read often the following Scriptures: Psalms 1, 23, 34, 73 and 84; Isaiah 53; Matthew 5; Luke 1; 1 John, chapters 3, 14 and 17; Acts 1 and 2; Romans 8; 1 Corinthians 15; The entire Epistle to the Ephesians and Revelation 21 and 22.
A Christian is any man, woman or child who comes to God as a lost sinner, accepts Jesus as his or her personal Savior, confesses Him as such before the world and strives to please Him in everything daily.
[2 Corinthians 5:17] “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
1. Did you come to God realizing that you were a lost sinner?
Jesus said, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that hears my Word and BELIEVES on Him that sent me, HAS EVERLASTING LIFE, and shall not come into condemnation; but Is passed from death unto life.” John 5:24. Do you believe that you have been accepted because Jesus died in your place?
2. Are you determined to please God in every detail of your life?
[Psalms 37:4-5] “Delight yourself also in the LORD, and He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass.” [Proverbs 3:5-6] “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.”
3. If you can sincerely answer “yes” to the foregoing questions, then you may know on the authority of God’s Word that you are NOW a child of God and on the road to becoming a real Christian. [John 1:12] “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.”
Discouragement and temptations to do wrong will come, but remember that such do not come from God but from your adversary, the Devil. Read the following scriptures often…
[1 Peter 4:12] “Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you.”
[Hebrews 4:14-16] “Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.”
What is it? Who is it for? What is it all about?
God Promises the Holy Spirit to All Who Ask! The gift of the Holy Ghost did NOT pass away with the Apostles, as some say. It is for every believer in Jesus.
Many quote 1 Corinthians 13:8 which says “…whether there be tongues, they shall cease;” But in the context of the scripture, it says, “when that which is perfect is come…” (1 Corinthians 13:10). We haven’t come to that time of perfection; Jesus Christ is “that which is perfect” and, although He has promised us He will return, He hasn’t yet returned. So, until He does, we need all the help we can get.
Paul promises us in his letter to the Corinthian believers (1 Corinthians 1:7-8), that God would not withdraw the gift of the Holy Ghost even to the return of Christ. God promises the Holy Ghost to those who ask!
Boldness and power: “Ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses…unto the uttermost parts of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)
Close communication with God: The Devil cannot intercept. “He that speaks in an unknown tongues speaks…unto God.” (1 Corinthians 14:2)
The Holy Spirit intercedes for you while you pray in tongues. (Romans 8:26-27)
The Holy Ghost instructs and comforts us. (Luke 12:12, Acts 9:31)
Edifies you and builds you up to resist Satan’s attacks. (1 Corinthians 14:14)
Used in praising God: “God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.” (John 4:24)
Contend for the different gifts of the Holy Ghost. (1 Corinthians 12:8-11) Remember, the gifts function in the church in an orderly fashion as the Spirit leads, not in confusion.
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Acts 1:8
Just like salvation, you receive the Holy Ghost by faith, by asking Jesus for what He has promised you, remember you will not receive anything evil when you ask Him for the Holy Ghost.
Luke 11:11-13 says, “If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!”
Doubt, hidden sin, and not totally yielding yourself to God can hinder you from receiving Him. If you don’t have any of those things, you can proceed with confidence to receive the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking with other tongues.
You can receive this wonderful gift just like they did in Acts 9:6, “And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied.” You may have Spirit-filled Christians lay hands on you and pray you through to receiving the Holy Ghost, raising your hands and praising God. As the Lord places a strange word in your mind, you speak it out boldly. Your lips may stammer, but as you boldly repeat the word in faith, the Spirit will give your more words. At first, you may only speak a few words, but the more you speak out in faith, the easier it will get.
Keep practicing your new prayer language until it becomes natural and you’ll experience a new peace and joy of knowing the presence of the Lord. The more you pray in tongues the more you build up your faith. Jude 20 says, “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit…” This gift will continue to make you strong enough to resist the attacks of Satan and bold enough to be a good witness for Jesus Christ!
Have you come to the place in your life that you know for certain that, if you died today, you would go to heaven? What would you say to God if He were to ask, “Why should I let you into heaven?” Did you know that you can be sure?
You cannot earn it, and you will never deserve it.
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no-one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23
“For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles at just one point is guilty of breaking all of it.” James 2:10
He loves us, but He MUST punish sin.
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with loving-kindness.” Jeremiah 31:3
“The soul who sins is the one who will die.” Ezekiel 18:4
…and he came to earth to die for our sins and save us.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1

…and that is, believing in Him and trusting Christ alone for salvation — nothing else.

It’s that simple. Remember these 5 facts about faith, put your life in His hands, follow Him every day, and watch how He will change your life.
In the verbal inspiration of the original scriptures; in the absolute Trinity of the eternal Godhead; in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ; in the personality and deity of the Holy Spirit; in the reality and personality of Satan (the devil); in the natural depravity of the human race; in the substitutionary atonement through Jesus Christ; in the propitiation for sin, only through the Blood of Christ; in full salvation by grace, through faith, and not of works; in divine healing through the atonement by the laying on of hands and prayer; in the personal Baptism of the Holy Spirit; in the necessity of the new birth (born again); in water baptism by immersion at an age of accountability; in the true church composed of blood-washed believers; in the evangelism of the heathen and the nations of the world; in obedience to civil Government; in divorce only on New Testament scriptural grounds; in Church Government, loyalty and obedience to those in authority over us in the Lord; in tithing as God’s financial plan; in the restitution for past wrongs whenever possible; in God’s laws and principles outlined in the Bible as the final authority in Christian conduct; in the open table at the Lord’s Supper; in the maintenance of good works and holy living; in Christian modesty in a matter of dress and apparel; in a literal heaven and life everlasting for all true believers; in everlasting punishment for the impenitent; in the personal, literal, bodily, premillennial coming of Jesus Christ.
The Holy Bible was written by men, divinely inspired, and is God’s revelation of Himself to man. It is a perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. The Bible is God’s message to man, revealing the “mind of the Lord”, beyond what can be “clearly understood from the creation”, and “things able to make one wise unto salvation through faith”. The Bible, neither simple history nor textbook, is a supernatural revelation of the creator to his creation.

God is the creator, sustainer, and ruler of the universe. He is eternally known in three persons: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is the eternal Son of God. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life among mankind. He offered Himself as the perfect sacrifice on the cross for our sins. He arose to life again on the third day and has ascended into heaven. One day, He will return unexpectedly in power and glory to judge the world and to consummate His redemptive mission.

The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God. He inspired holy men of old to write the Bible. Through illumination, He enables mankind to understand truth. He proceeds from the Father and the Son and is involved in creation, the new creation and raising Jesus from the dead.

Mankind is the crowning work of God’s creation, made in His own image. By man’s own free choice he sinned against God and brought sin into the human race. Only the grace of God can bring man into His holy fellowship again.

Salvation involves the redemption of the whole man and is offered freely to all who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior through repentance and faith. Salvation is a gift from God to man that transforms his or her former life into a new life in Christ. The doctrine of Salvation is: Man, the creation of God, who is good, intelligent, possessing a conscience, self-will, dominion, and responsibility is degenerate (fallen) and estranged (separated) from God. The story of man’s sin, guilt, shame and God’s redeeming grace are the sum and substance of the Bible. Sin made man universally vulnerable to sickness, sorrow, and death.

The church is a local expression of the Body of Christ. It is an indigenous congregation of believers, associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The purpose of the church is the fulfillment of the Great Commandment and the Great Commission to ‘Go into all the world and…make disciples of all nations’.

The question I would like to address as we introduce ourselves to you is, “What makes The Potter’s House Christian Fellowship Church different?” What makes us different from the average church? Actually, we are different in many ways and I would like to point out 10 differences that cause The Potter’s House Christian Fellowship Ministries to stand out:
Our vision is visible and measurable. We see the harvest field of Los Banos, California and the World. We intend by all means to impact the unsaved community through outreach and evangelism. We enlist a “whatever it takes” mentality. We constantly look for more effective ways to fulfill our purpose and see our vision become a reality. We do not fear change but welcome it. Our vision is big because we have a big God who has given us a big command and a big commission to “go into all the world”.
We make a concentrated effort to equip our members to live for Christ by addressing their needs from a biblical perspective and developing within our members a Christian Worldview. Our discipleship program is tailor-made to address the specific needs of believers, visitors, and unbelievers. Each member is called to minister; therefore, they are free to minister how God has shaped and blessed them. We seek by all means to develop, counsel and lead each member to find how God has uniquely gifted their lives and abilities – capitalize on those abilities and reach others from that perspective.
At The Potter’s House Christian Fellowship Ministries, we make available to all aspiring church members a six-week “Foundations of Faith” class outlining the fundamentals of our faith, strategy, structure, and member’s responsibilities to the church. Each aspiring member then has the opportunity to sign a ‘Membership Covenant’ accepting their role in the furtherance of the gospel and the church. Our Ministry leaders, elders, and Pastor(s) will serve as examples and navigators to affirm, mentor, and assist each member in their spiritual development. We desire to substantially increase the total number of members in active ministry.
We focus on five major tasks of the church as modeled by the early church of Acts. We do not seek to do one task better than the other. We seek to fulfill all tasks with excellence. Five Tasks of the Church (see Acts 2:42-47): Discipleship v. 42, Fellowship v. 42, Worship v. 42, 47, Ministry v. 44-45, Outreach v. 47. We want people to understand that authentic Christianity is practical and to be lived out in their daily lives. We want to move the church beyond the theoretical Christianity to the practical Christianity.
We desire to use whatever means, media, or mode necessary to reach out to the unsaved of the Los Banos area. There is no cost too great to pay for bringing people to Jesus Christ when considering the cost that Jesus paid for the members of The Potter’s House Christian Fellowship Ministries to come to salvation. We also give the opportunity to involve our members in world evangelism from the local church and world evangelism endeavors where they can accompany the Pastor on overseas missions. We envision multitudes of volunteer missionaries, short-term missionaries and career missionaries to be commissioned from our church. We will bring missionaries into our church to share their vision for the lost world – so that we can make it our own. We will be involved in intensive mission partnering, training, and education.
We have a simple structure in order to maximize the member’s time in the development of hands-on ministries. We disciple men and couples to rise up and tackle the needs of our generation in “real-time” terms so that they can have maximum impact with low maintenance. We desire to create an atmosphere where we can minister to your needs. We realize our members want their lives to count; therefore, every moment they spend in the church or related activities should count significantly to the fulfillment of our purpose. Each church member’s responsibility is to reach out and minister to every visitor and unbeliever God places in their path.
Every message is prepared to touch and challenge each listener’s life up close and personal. We want each message to address and show the people that the Word of God is as relevant today as it was to the generation to which it was originally written—to address and guide them through the issues of life. We see the Bible as the final source of truth and it will not be compromised or diluted in its original intent and message. We believe every word of the Scriptures is given by God without error and believe that the Bible’s authority should supersede any historic or modern-day beliefs.
Our strategy is how we intend to fulfill our purpose. Everything we do is focused on evangelism, discipleship and church planting. Though we have an unchanging focus on the tasks at hand, we are flexible on the methods we employ to accomplish the tasks. We are always willing to try a different method to achieve our determined end.
We are first and foremost a gospel-preaching church. Although we love music and take time to maximize our worship potential and spend great energy on making our praise team most effective, our services are centered on the preaching of the Word of God. Our services are energetic, moving and developed to bring maximum impact and challenge to our lives. We preach the uncut gospel with a convicting edge and always challenge every person with an altar call at the close of service where we can meet with God and let him minister to our lives.
We expect our members to abide by and agree to a covenant of giving ‘generously’ and cheerfully to the church. The Bible thoroughly and clearly lays out a tithing plan for each church member consisting of the ‘tenth’ and offerings besides. We strategically submit and manage our budget according to the purpose and tasks of the church. All weekly and special offerings come under close scrutiny, managed by multiple layers of accountability before being reinvested into ministry. We intend to invest our giving according to our vision.
